Technics SL-1210MK2

The matte-black version of the SL-1200MK2, mechanically identical but with a multi-voltage power supply. In the UK club scene the black 1210 became even more ubiquitous than the silver 1200.

The black 1210 is the deck most UK DJs actually learned on, and pairs of them still anchor club booths.

Who it suits

Best suited to: buyers comfortable assessing used condition and budgeting for servicing (drive mechanism, bearing, stylus). Less ideal for: a no-hassle purchase with a manufacturer warranty — buy a current model instead.

• No built-in phono stage — use an amplifier with a phono input or add a separate phono preamplifier.
