Rega's serious mid-tier: a foam-cored ultra-light plinth, the Neo PSU with electronic speed control, and a two-piece glass platter for higher flywheel effect.
Model history: The Planar 6 replaced the RP6 with an all-new ultra-lightweight Tancast-8/Polaris HPL plinth (versus the RP6's heavier glass-platter design), a single-piece machined aluminium sub-platter, the RB330 tonearm (up from the RB303), and a new 24V motor paired with the Neo PSU borrowed from the flagship RP10.

Who it suits
Best suited to: a first serious turntable for an existing or planned amp-and-speakers setup. Less ideal for: plugging straight into passive speakers with no amp — check the built-in phono stage row above, and note most hi-fi decks still need external amplification.
Compatibility and setup
- Manual operation: you cue and lift the tonearm by hand at the start and end of each side — there’s no auto-return or auto-lift.
Good to know
- No built-in phono stage — use an amplifier with a phono input or add a separate phono preamplifier.
- Sold without a cartridge fitted — budget for a compatible cartridge and setup before first use.
