A Scottish suspended-subchassis belt-drive machined by Castle Precision Engineering — the Tiefenbrun family firm — before Linn launched the near-identical LP12 in 1973. The tangled Ariston/Linn history is one of British hi-fi's great stories.
Effectively the LP12's elder sibling, at a fraction of the price.
Who it suits
Best suited to: buyers comfortable assessing used condition and budgeting for servicing (drive mechanism, bearing, stylus). Less ideal for: a no-hassle purchase with a manufacturer warranty — buy a current model instead.
